Students at the Loyola School now have more space to learn and play following the opening of their new facility. Leadership from the school and the Jesuit community gathered on Wednesday to bless and cut the ribbon on the $10 million building located on Calvert Street in Mt. Vernon. The new structure is situated directly across from St. Ignatius Church, where students and staff previously utilized every available inch of space for classrooms.

To create the new building, the school converted five rowhomes into a modern educational facility. The project aims to enhance the learning experience and accommodate a growing student body.

The Loyola School, which first opened its doors in 2017 with 18 students aged two, has progressively expanded by adding one grade level each year. The current expansion allows the institution to serve students up to fourth grade.

James Fiore, the school's president, shared with WMAR-2 News that the new building will enable the school to increase its enrollment to approximately 140 children, supporting more families in the community.

The school operates on a model where parents pay a modest monthly fee, with the remainder of their child's tuition covered through grants and donations. Additionally, parents commit to volunteering for 10 hours per semester, participating in workshops, and making an eight-year commitment to the school.

Founded by Father William Watters, the Loyola School was established by the same individual who founded the all-boys St. Ignatius Loyola Academy and the co-educational Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. The institution continues to grow as a vital part of the community, providing quality education and faith-based learning opportunities.
